Renee Unterman, the leading conservative candidate in the 7th Congressional District race, today condemned the politically motivated accusations made by Obama-appointed Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
“I am appalled by the hypocrisy of Justice Sotomayor’s accusations against her colleagues on the United States Supreme Court,” Unterman said. “In doing so, Justice Sotomayor has revealed her liberal bias and abused the power of the court to advance her personal political views. For a member of this court to suggest her fellow justices would rule in favor of a political party or president over the defense of our Constitution is both egregious and irresponsible – but not unexpected from an Obama appointee.”
The Hill newspaper reports that Sotomayor’s opinion said the court hasn’t looked at the Trump administration’s appeals “objectively” and is “quick to rule in favor of President Trump.”
“President Trump has successfully appointed two highly qualified and expert jurists to the Court, and this type of politically motivated stunt – especially by one of its members – should not be tolerated,” Unterman said. “Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, and the jurisprudence of Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, Georgians can rest assured that the Constitution is safe, and judicial activists like Justice Sotomayor will no longer be permitted to legislate from the bench.”
